International Seminar


Covid-19 is the biggest current global health crisis and become pandemic of the world. Coronavirus disease-2019 or COVID-19 is a new disease caused by severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection which can cause respiratory distress and pneumonia. According to Indonesian Ministry of Health, the number of cases has increased every day, and for now at least become 17,514 positive COVID-19 cases, which are treated 12,237 cases with the number of death 1,148 cases. People who are confirmed as positive COVID-19 need to be isolated from the public for a minimum of 14 days after confirmed by Swab or RT-PCR Test. They have to use selected drugs such as chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin, favipiravir, remdesivir, lopinavir, and others. However, using these synthetic drugs for a long period can pose adverse drug reactions, and increase worst effects, due to drug-drug interactions, the phenomenon of prescribing cascade, the added burden to the organs of excretion, patient compliance can decrease and others. The use of traditional medicine has for years been used to treat diseases, giving rise to opportunities for traditional medicine to be used as a Covid-19 treatment therapy.


School of Pharmacy Makassar (Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Farmasi, STIFA) Makassar, having the vision of natural drug pruduct development, has the obligation to pursue  these objectives by International conference with the theme :Herbal remedies for COVID-19 treatment: State of the art and Perspectives”,

This conference was intended to be a meeting place of  international and national researchers, and pharmaceutical industries to sharing an idea to be used in the complementary medication that absolutely relevance with Indonesian student in order to deep understand about the theme of the Seminar.

In this event, several prominent guest speakers from other countries will act as resource persons, and at this event an opportunity was also given for others to participate and directly acquire information from experts with multidisciplinary :

  1. Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology    
  2. Natural Products
  3. Biochemistry




This activity focuses on several issues: :

  1. Development of traditional medicines for the treatment of COVID-19
  2. Reseaches related to the discovery of traditional medicines for the treatment of COVID-19
